Is any of this worth it?

I've been in a funk for a while; the Affliction acting up, the whole family is sick, more medical challenges for Le Petite Poulet. Not to mention the whole gun issue.

Then I see this thread on Sebastian's site, and I wonder how much longer I can pay attention. It all seems so pointless. Gunnies arguing about what this means or that means; should we like the Republicans or not? Should we like the Democrats or not? What should we do?

If you really knew me, you might think I'm kinda fatalistic ... I'm not. I realize there are things that happen about which we can do nothing. Kids drown in 5 gal buckets. Little old ladies are hit by drunk drivers.

And citizens are attacked by lunatics with firearms. And legislators feel the need to 'do something', even if it won't help the actual problem, because it won't.

And we don't have any organization who will stand up and fight for our civil rights, and by that, I mean really fight. Like get in the face of John Boehner and tell him that any, any capitulation with the forces of evil will result in a prompt primary challenge and Boehner can forget about receiving help or support unless firearm freedoms start coming back instead of going away.

But we don't have an organization like that, and we never have. The NRA threw class 3 owners fully under the bus in 1934, and they continue to this day to ignore them (and then wonder why they get no respect from class 3 owners). The NRA, the 800 lb Yorky, still hasn't gotten anything done with MA ... or NJ ... or IL ... or CA. Even after Heller and McDonald have given us tools to use to leverage against hoplophobes.

The ATF is our enemy, but the NRA doesn't agree. The NRA believes that we can tweak the law and make the ATF kinder and gentler. This is because the NRA wants to keep it's seat at the table; it wants to stay on the invitation lists of all the right parties. It wants to keep problems going because that's how they continue to raise funds. It is now in their interest to make sure that nothing is ever solved in the gun rights arena.

I want to see freedom restored to America. I want to see responsibility and accountability restored to America. And I want to see groups advocate for firearms rights, and advocating for keeps.
