Here's a thought ...

I'm not sure if I've blogged about this before, so I'll try now.

I'm a bit miffed (to the extent that I care one way or the other) about the fact that certain states and their primaries have an inordinate effect on which candidate is chosen. In Iowa, you can preach most anything except ending corn subsidies. Such crazy talk will get you run out of town, and out of contention. This is just an example.

So let's try this ... of course, it would take the national party getting involved and setting up some rules, so there's the problem right there.

Arrange the dates of the primaries such that the first primary is held in the state with the highest percentage of Republicans (or Democrats) in state-wide and national office, including the governor. Now you'd get fewer squishes, at least on the Republican side.

And it'd make those squishy independents pick a side.
