Interesting ...

.
... soldiers (and police) have no right to self-defense:

“So the government’s view is that if a police officer misunderstands the law and is conducting an interrogation with a weapon, than the police officer has no right to defend himself if the person being interrogated then jumps the officer,” the judge asked. “He has to just sit there and take whatever happens?”

The government lawyer hesitated for several seconds and then said, “Yes, your honor. When a police officer does something unlawful like that, they lose the right to self-defense.”
This is truly telling, and I don't think they want to establish that precedent (even though it's already nominally around). There are all kinds of instances where police officers do things unlawfully - wouldn't want the proles to think they can just start shooting, now do we?!

... The Greatest Economic Speech Evah!

In conclusion, it is my belief that from start to finish the Fed is a failure. I believe faulty methodology is used, I believe that the justification for the Fed, to bring price and economic stability, has never been a success. I repeat, prices since the start of the Fed have climbed by 2,241% and there have been over the same period 18 recessions. No one seems to care at the Fed about the gold supposedly backing up the gold certificates on the Fed balance sheet. The emperor has no clothes.

Can I get an Amen?!

Unless your wife bought you one for Father's Day ...

.
... don't mess around with no cheap table saw!

Now, don't get me wrong, I love my wife ... dearly. And when she came home with that table saw from Lowe's, I was beside myself, becauses that's something that I would have never bought for myself. I loved that table saw.

But when it went on the fritz (and 2/3 of the cost to repair it) I started looking around for another one. Craigslist to the rescue!

Found an older Unisaw in Knoxville (built in the 60's) that a gentleman had rescued fneverneverrom an industrial concern. He had replaced the 3-phase motor with a single phase motor and included the 3-phase motor with the saw.

Complete running Unisaw, extra motor, blade guard, crosscut gauge and 2 crosscut sleds - $500!

Sold.

I am in woodworking heaven.

Small glimmers ...

.
... of hope:

The Michigan Supreme Court says people can resist police officers who unlawfully enter their homes.

In a 5-2 decision, the court ordered that charges be dropped against Angel Moreno Junior, a western Michigan man who was accused of obstructing officers at his home in Holland. The officers were looking for someone and tried to enter the home without a warrant.

I'm reminded of John Bad Elk, who may have even had a bit if ill will, but was cleared anyway of killing a brother officer.

Why does Bank of America ...

.
... hate the military?

McMillan is heavily involved with U.S. national security. McMillan rifle stocks are the standard for the Marine Corps’ favored M40A3 sniper rifle. McMillan products, from stocks and other accessories to complete rifles, are used by U.S. regular and special forces and by American military allies around the globe.

McMillan products are of particular import in Afghanistan and in Iraq, where snipers and designated marksmen armed with long-range precision rifles performed (and still perform) vital scouting and overwatch functions protecting maneuver units. The extended range of these weapons allows forces to engage with and destroy enemy forces before they are in range to accurately fire against American soldiers and Marines.

Per McMillan’s statement, a politically partisan bank has severed the lines of credit to a company important to our national security. This act has likely added difficulty to the company’s ability to operate, to research product improvements, and to deliver products on time.

It's actually worse than that ... they hate firearms of all stripes.

It seems to me that a company that took so much public money in the form of bank bailouts really shouldn't be severing relationships with any company unless it's a direct consequence of that company's credit unworthiness.

Which I seriously doubt applies to McMillan.

This is why ...

.
... governments suck:

The immediately obvious problem here is that the ethical requirements need to be strengthened. If the task force charged with investigating possible wrongful convictions is only required to report what it finds to the prosecutor offices that won those convictions—and who obviously have a strong incentive to keep the new information under wraps—what the hell was the point of forming the task force in the first place? And why keep the task force findings from the public?

But even beyond the problematic ethical requirements, I’m having a hard time fathoming how no one on this task force felt morally compelled to go beyond those requirements—to, you know, actually reach out defense attorneys, or attempt to actually reach the convicts or their families. How in the world can you possess this sort of information, then still sleep at night, year after year, knowing that (a) the information obviously isn’t reaching the people who have an incentive to actually put it to use, (b) you’re one of the few people who could make that happen, and (c) because the information was only available to select group of people, if you or one of your colleagues doesn’t act, no one else will?

Government is not moral ... only those within government might be. All the rest are up to no good.

You're not a turncoat ...

.
... you're just mentally unsuitable:

This is the third story I can recall in the last year or so in which a police officer who crossed the blue line was sent off for a psychological evaluation. It isn’t just that cops don’t rat out other cops, it’s that those who do obviously have psychological problems. It’s a chilling thought. It also sends a pretty clear message to other well-meaning cops. Cross the blue line, and you may not only lose your job, we’ll also publicly question your sanity.

An officer in Bogota, NY ... fresh from training on how to deal with actual mentally unstable subjects, is sent for psychological exam after pulling two other officers off the mentally disturbed subject who was just trying to get to the hospital.

This, along with Radley's puppycide stories, makes it more and more likely that someone, somewhere is going to fix this problem on their own ... and in a permanent way.

The BAG Day ...

.
... that wasn't.

I had every intention (after checking the funds after tax refund) of investing in a 1911 (Para GI Expert) pistol to replace my Hi-Power copy for carry. Unfortunately, my tablesaw has given up the ghost and I'd much rather take the money I'd spend to repair it to upgrade my saw.

I have, however, at least gotten a new gun, or at least, gotten one replaced. A Ruger 22/45 that was 'damaged' somehow beyond repair ... Ruger was nice enough to replace it for me.

The snark ...

One rather gets the idea that Sheila has a certain lack of confidence in Ben Shalom's ability to successfully extricate the U.S. economy from the 30-year debt bubble the Fed created. The frightening thing is that her Swiftian solution differs only in its degree from the strategy that Bernanke is actually utilizing.

Vox - flirting with controversy ...

... feminism is for losers:

It's long been observed that the uglier a woman is, the more likely she is to be a feminist. And it was always logical, too, that women who couldn't compete with other women in the traditional manner would seek to change the rules of the game. But now there is some scientific evidence supporting both the logic and the observation, and it could be very useful in helping counteract the feminist propaganda that inundates young women from the time they are girls, encouraging them to waste their youth and fertility in chasing careers rather than families.

Hey, it's science! Who am I to argue?!

This DGU ...

.
... deserves to be watched:

According to McNeil’s testimony, when he pulled up to his house, Epp was next door grabbing something from his truck and stuffing it in his pocket. McNeil quickly grabbed his gun from the glove compartment in plain view of Epp who was coming at him “fast.” McNeil jumped out of the car and fired a warning shot at the ground insisting that Epp back off. Instead of retreating, Epp charged at McNeil while reaching for his pocket, so McNeil fired again, this time fatally striking Epp in the head..
Yep, McNeil was convicted and the GA Supreme Court upheld the conviction.

I note that in a lot of court decisions, the facts are mostly looked at in a light most favorable to the prosecution. It really needs to be the other way around.

“Standard positions work for most people. If unorthodox stance or hold works for a shooter, then it’s not wrong, just unconventional.”

I'm back ...

.
... in the saddle again:

A high school science teacher in the Bronx who had already been warned about touching female students brushed his lower body against one student’s leg during a lab exercise, coming so close that she told investigators she could feel his genitals…

This from a post regarding how hard it is to get rid of unionized teachers, especially in NY City. I have a solution, but it will require a lot of public support, and a few martyrs.

If your daughter is treated like this teacher treated some of his students, then as the father of said student, it is your responsibility to find the offender, and put a bullet in his brain.

Then, it is up to the public (in the form of the jury) to acquit the father of the murder charges.

Eventually, even stupid union bosses will learn that maybe they should start letting school systems get rid of these jokers.

Liberals are in fact ...

.
... insane:

Of course, there’s a better alternative the government could pursue. It could encourage people to own and profit off of endangered species. That’s been happening in Texas, but a facet of the program may be about to come to an end.

Conservationists have argued for decades that the profit in hunting a species serves to ensure their continued existence. Environmentalists just don't listen. So I've got a solution.

The environmentalists need to get off their asses and buy a few of these endangered specimens and take them back to Africa, where they can join in the same endangered boat their brethren are in.

Oh, and STFU!

Mr. Chamberlain didn’t respond. So the operator signaled for an ambulance. Police patrol cars fell in behind — standard operating procedure in towns across America. Except an hour later, even as Mr. Chamberlain insisted he was in good health, the police had snapped the locks on the apartment door.

They fired electric charges from Tasers, and beanbags from shotguns. Then they said they saw Mr. Chamberlain grab a knife, and an officer fired his handgun.

Yep, they killed him, all the while pretending that they were there to help him.

I don't need that kind of help.

The more I read about these kinds of things, the more curmudgeonly I get ...
