About that phone spoofing ...

.
... apparently, it's not that hard to do.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the whole SWATting kerfluffle; things like that happen because no one in authority wants to do anything about it. However, let a couple of police officers get shot in the process of executing a spoof-initiated raid, and folks will start to take it seriously.

Of course, an affected individual might try the Skidmore Solution ...

Who knew?

.
Trayvon Martin, a drug dealer?!

So I suppose I should start by answering the obvious: “what in the heck is Dedicated Dad talking about”, and how would research answer questions about “intent”?

The substance of research was prodded by with this graphic of unknown attribution, dealing with the possibility that Trayvon Martin was not only an illegal drug-user, but possibly a drug-dealer.

Huh? Unpossible, because I heard on Huffpo that Trayvon Martin had gone to get Skittles for poor starving Ethiopians while on his way back from choir practice.

Influential blogger ...

A (semi) ubiquitous topic here, but I’m in the market for a concealed carry handgun — and one for my wife, as well — and am open to suggestions / favorites.

Also, has anybody yet fired the Kel-tec KSG? I’m probably going to pick that up as soon as I can find it unless I hear really bad things about it from people here I trust on such matters.

Jeff is one of my favorite political bloggers - he has a keen mind and awesome wit, and he drills down to the manner in which the Left uses language against us.

He lives in Colorado and can be reached at jeff@proteinwisdom.com . You can leave your suggestions at the link above.

Brett Kimberlin ...

.
... is still a convicted bomber and terrorist douchebag.

Just in case you were wondering.

pm

You won't see this ...

.
... at an anti-gun range:

The shotgun was loaded. I had fired an Uzi submachine gun and an M-1 Garand rifle, but this was something I had always wanted to do. I took aim at the bright clay disk dangling from a strip of duct tape and fired.

Bang! I felt that kick against my shoulder, but I had held it snug like I had been told, so I didn’t get too much of a hit. The target exploded and I had a quick shot of elation. That feeling got even better when I shot down another target pitched into the air. Symbolically, it was turkey on the table tonight.

Word to your mother ...

More common sense ...

.
... from a federal judge:

U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin cited "unequivocal" video evidence of Deputy Jim R. Asbury's alleged assault on Brian Sawyer. The federal judge ruled in favor of Sawyer and ordered a new trial to determine damages.

Apparently, the jury doesn't have the stones to look at a video tape and say, Yep, that's assault.

Brett Kimberlin ...

.
... douchebag terrorist:

Over the past year, Aaron Walker (who blogged as “Aaron Worthing”), Patterico, Liberty Chick, and now Stacy McCain have been targeted by convicted Speedway bomber Brett Kimberlin because they dared to mention his criminal past or assisted others who did. The late Andrew Breitbart warned about Kimberlin and company.

I have spoken directly with both Patterico and Aaron about their ongoing battles.

The mainstream press, not just the conservative blogosphere, needs to hear and report their stories.

I've heard a little about terrorist douchebag Brett Kimberlin in the past, but I didn't know he'd not only not eased up, but rather doubled-down on the until-someone-kicks-my-ass-I'll-keep-doing-this shit.

Apparently, some people want to try the kinder, gentler approach.

I'll play ... but we tend to handle things differently in rural America.

Remember ...

.
... this is how they think of you:

"When public safety comes up, that is No. 1," Porter said. "If we see someone carrying a weapon in a holster, they have to have a permit on them and would be asked to show it. Anybody with a weapon on their side is considered a suspicious person."

Soooo, if you're in OK and you have a carry permit and because it's hot as Satan's ass you're openly carrying, you're suspicious.

I believe that if I lived in Midwest City, I'd be calling the chief of police and the sheriff and ask them exactly what about open carrying (absent criminal activity) makes a permit-holder 'suspicious'?

Because I'm sure that the form this 'reasonable public safety measure' will be the po-po drawing down on a citizen and detaining or arresting them until they can show their permit and the police are satisfied (which I'm quite sure some of them won't be).

We already knew this ...

.
... some are just unwilling to admit it:

How easy is it to kill a man in a fistfight?

It happens more than twice a day, on average. Fists and feet were responsible for 745 murders in 2010, or 5.7 percent of all murders that year, according to FBI statistics. (The data on this have been remarkably stable in recent years. In the five preceding years, the percentage of murders perpetrated by fists or feet fluctuated between 5.6 and 6.1.) It doesn’t even take an experienced brawler to punch someone to death: An 11-year-old California girl appears to have killed a classmate with her bare hands in a February fistfight.

But ... but... Trayvon Martin was unarmed! He wasn't a danger!

Who would've thought ...

.
... that raw milk would be the tipping point:

The founder of the Organic Pastures business in California is reporting that government health officials have begun tracking down the names and addresses of natural-foods customers and showing up at their homes, demanding to confiscate any raw milk they might have.

'Food Confiscation Teams' ..., that's what the state is unleashing on raw milk customers, and California residents really have no one to blame but themselves.

Because up here in rural NW Georgia, I can't imagine FCT's lasting much past the second or third confiscation without suffering heavy losses.

Hoplophobes in the media ...

.
... strike again:

"It is not a police-duty gun. It is not a target pistol. It is not made for hunting," said Sean Caranna, executive director of Florida Carry, a nonprofit group that lobbies for the right of gun owners to carry sidearms in the open. "It is a self-defense firearm."

Translation: It's designed to shoot people at short range.

Just like the handguns the police carry ... they have assault rifles for the long-range people.

It's my opinion that it's high time we started calling things like they are. Yes, the Keltec line of compact 9mm pistols are designed to be carried for self-defense and if necessary ... to shoot people!

People like Trayvon Martin, who was shot because he tried to circle around the Neighborhood
Watch captain (who was trying to find out what he was doing) and started fighting with him, placing George Zimmerman in fear for his life.

Here's a tip, you hoplophobic panty waists; that's why we carry firearms.

Your government (and the ATF) ...

.
... at work:

A felon with a lengthy history of violence against women, Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison April 13 for sexually abusing an 18-year-old woman and holding her against her will for days inside a cheap South Seattle motel last year. The woman told investigators Jackson forced her to audition for a porn film and at one point choked her so hard she almost lost consciousness.

As part of the case, Jackson also admitted to criminal impersonation on various occasions when he told the victim and seven other people that he was a federal agent or a police officer.

...

For all of this, the 34-year-old Jackson would be just another habitual criminal except for one startling fact: He was working the entire time as a paid informant for the Seattle office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

It figures ... bird of a feather and all that ...

Frankly, I wish all the alphabet agencies were disbanded and we started from scratch.

This is one European trait ...

.
... I'm sure we won't be emulating anytime soon:

German police officers fired a total of 85 bullets in 2011, 49 of which were warning shots, the German publication Der Spiegel reported. Officers fired 36 times at people, killing six and injuring 15. This is a slight decline from 2010, when seven people were killed and 17 injured. Ninety-six shots were fired in 2010.

Heck, Jose Guerena got 71 bullets fired at him on his own. Note that 49 of those shots were warning shots.

An interior minister also said

"It is gratifying that the use of firearms by police officers against people is declining,"

Yeah, that'll happen in this country as well, just not the way everyone would hope ...

May 10, 2012

Today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released a safety communication to inform people with MS, doctors and others about potential risks associated with procedures and devices used to treat CCSVI (chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency). The communication from the FDA outlines these risks and encourages more research to provide better understanding of the relationship between CCSVI and MS and to guide possible treatment decisions by people with MS and their health care providers.

Yeah, right. The MS Society has only recently gotten onboard with CCSVI research because there was such a groundswell of support for more research by actual sufferers.

Look ... it's sad but true ... no company wants to cure anything, because if they cured anything, there would be no need for them to treat anything.

Hey hey, ho ho ...

.
... 17th amendment has got to go!

As I’ve said before, senators no longer represent their states to Washington, they represent Leviathan to the states, handing out either goodies or punishments as their whim and the political winds dictate. Their primary allegiance is not to the voters back “home” but to their cloakroom colleagues (hence the “bipartisanship” fetish that is particularly virulent in the Senate) on Capitol Hill, and to the Beltway parasites who feed off them.

Indeed, Lugar didn’t even live in Indiana. According to this story, he stayed in a hotel in Indianapolis, at taxpayer expense, whenever he deigned to visit:

The 17th amendment was enacted to keep state legislatures from colluding to appoint senators, so really, they swapped one evil for another. Get rid of it, and let the constitutional system work.

pm

Well, at least ...

.
... the family got some:

The quiet neighborhood was awakened by loud bangs, presumably from flash-bang devices agents often use to distract a suspect as they enter a building.

Then the bullets started to fly.

When the gunfire ceased, three federal agents were wounded.

One of the family's two dogs, a boxer named Sassy, was dead.

Given that the anecdotal evidence regarding police apprehensions is that the more actually dangerous the criminal the less force is used, it behooves the public to become as dangerous as possible. h/t Radley

Hey ...

... didn't John Derbyshire just get fired for saying you should avoid these thugs?

Two weeks have passed since reporters Dave Forster and Marjon Rostami - friends to me and many others at the newspaper - were attacked on a Saturday night as they drove home from a show at the Attucks Theatre. They had stopped at a red light, in a crowd of at least 100 young people walking on the sidewalk. Rostami locked her car door. Someone threw a rock at her window. Forster got out to confront the rock-thrower, and that's when the beating began.

...

Forster and Rostami, both white, suffered a beating at the hands of a crowd of black teenagers.

Yeah ... seems like I remember something about that ...

The really sad thing is that the two reporters who were beaten will more than likely learn nothing from the experience.

pm

Of course they do ...

.
... want to limit defense arguments, that is:

With a week to go before a murder conspiracy trial for three Interior members of the Alaska Peacemakers Militia, prosecutors have asked a judge to block several potential defense arguments on grounds they are irrelevant and distracting.

Prosecutors want a ban on mention of the 1992 Ruby Ridge incident, self-defense, entrapment, the 2010 Alaska Firearms Freedom Act and the fact that one of the defendants is a Mormon.
I mean, it's not like the government has unlimited funds or anything. As far as I'm concerned, anything that a defense can use to thwart the government should be allowed.

During cross-examination, the attorney, Catherine Elston, accused Capt. James Sepp of misquoting Tasca and other witnesses, omitting statements that could exculpate Tasca and not interviewing key witnesses to an April 2011 incident at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck.

But Sepp told the borough attorney, Raymond Wiss, that the investigation into the April 3, 2011, incident at Holy Name was atypical because it was captured on surveillance video, making the interviews less critical.

Note that a video-taped interview is "atypical" ... right!

It's just my opinion, but Officer Tasca's police career seems to be over, since there are almost no judges who will hold police accountable. h/t Radley

Have you ever bought a brand new cars only to forget where you put it? How about 300 of them? Probably not – unless you're Miami-Dade County, which was recently reunited with 298 vehicles it bought brand new between 2006 and 2007.

The county "discovered" this fleet of no-mileage vehicles after reading about them in a
Spanish-language newspaper there (see the source for more images). Most of the misplaced motorcade is made up of Toyota Prius hybrids whose warranties either expired with very few miles on the odo or will very soon.
