I stand up ...

.
... for the NRA:

House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick of Chattanooga said the traditional alliance between Republican lawmakers and the NRA has had very little meaning in recent years.

“They’re our allies as long as it in their self-interest — and I don’t think it’s in their self-interest anymore,” McCormick said. “Now that we’re the governing party, they’re going to be critical. They’re never going to be satisfied.”

Keep in mind that there is no love lost between the NRA and I, but Rep McCormick fundamentally misunderstands the relationship between politicians and the NRA (or any other advocacy organization, for that matter).

Republicans get the majority of NRA campaign donations because Republicans have historically been better (not perfect) supporters of the 2nd amendment. As Sebastian will tell you, this does not preclude a 2nd amendment-supporting Democrat from receiving campaign funds from the NRA. Surely Rep McCormick isn't so stupid that he doesn't understand that, as a single-issue organization, everything that they do is in their self-interest, or should I say, in the interest of the members. The best way to continue to get funds is to continue to support the pro-2nd amendment agenda.

It's as simple as that.
