... what would you rather have as a home defense weapon; handgun (any caliber), shotgun (again, any caliber and load) or H&K MP5SD?
I really want to know.

Excuse me trooper, will you be needing any packets today ...

Pistol first.
Easier to secure and access for those 'bump in the night' moments.
Shotgun second - more likely to need across the room against one or two people then the MP5.
I second Bob S, with a different reason for the SD. Because the MP5SD bleeds off gas pressure, it puts out a lightweight bullet at subsonic velocity. Instead of shooting 147gr subsonics, you are shooting 115gr subsonic. Essentially it's the worlds most expensive .380 ACP
Now, same choices except Kriss Vector, or a 9mm subgun? I'd take the subgun, assuming it was both free and not my only weapon. I still want a pistol for carry.
Of course, I'd take this first,

.223, and suppressed. Best of both worlds. Only 34" overall length with the stock collapsed. It's exactly the same size as a 16" barreled AR with a flash suppressor.
Sean, I can see where you're coming from. I would stay away from full-powered centerfire rifle cartridges because of the muzzle blast (you can't suppress sonic crack!). But if you were to take a comparable AR-platform carbine in, say, 300 BLK ... then I'd go with that. I picked the MP5SD because it's off the shelf and can be had in 3-rd burst flavor. And you can use 147gr subs, you just won't have as effective suppression.
I appreciate your commment
BTW, that rifle you linked is schweet!
