Obama and gun control

The president has decided to double down on gun control, looking for ways around congress (this means executive orders and reinterpretation of current regs). Sebastian has a post up about it, and it seems that he and commenters are ok with the NRA not attending the meetings that Obama is having on the subject. Apparently the feeling is that the NRA's presence would lend credibility to whatever Obama decides.

I've always maintained that in an adversarial situation, it's much better to be engaged rather than refuse to attend. You can always walk out of any meetings, and that might play better to the base.

I would think that 9it would hinge on the NRA co-opting the agenda. When their turn to speak came around, they can always start with the fact that they can't take Obama seriously until he addresses the Gunwalker/Fast and Furious problem, as the ATF will be in charge of enforcing anything that comes of the big meeting.

But since they won't (the NRA loves the ATF), I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
