Lots of people are noticing ...

.
... it's probably not long before it goes mainstream:
This is only the beginning of the twisted logic of military policing. In a further bitter irony, the rise of the warrior cop feeds every paranoid inclination of our armed citizen-survivalists, which encourages, of course, yet more militarization.
Radley Balko (now at WaPo) has been beating this drum for years now.

Hopefully, more are listening.

It's shit like this that causes me to say ...

.
... that nothing will change until officers and DA's start getting shot in the streets:
After struggling with Saenz for several minutes and apparently getting frustrated  with their inability to get Saenz sufficiently subdued, one of the officers, El Paso Police Officer Jose Flores, pulls his pistol and shoots a downed and restrained Saenz from behind, twice, killing him.
The video's not as graphic as one might think.

But how can a DA not charge the officer with something?!

Preemptive lethal force ...

.
... shouldn't be just for police:
It’s quite apparent in the segment that Malloy takes great delight in facilitating a situation where gun owners (whom he hates) will die at the hands of law enforcement officers (whom he apparently hates more).
I know it's not fashionable to call for violence in response to idiots like this, but stupid really should hurt.

A lot. At the very least, a good punch in the nose.

Jeff opines about the TX man told to remove his American flag ...

.
... because it's offensive to Muslims:
I Tweeted this out a few days ago, but to address it here, let my simply repeat (in slightly altered form) what I wrote on Twitter then:  unless and until this headline reads, “Texas Man Told to Remove American Flag Because ‘It’s a Threat to Muslims’; Responds by Telling Apartment Complex Manager to Go Blow a Donkey,” outrageous, PC restraints on speech, political or otherwise, will continue to grow ever more onerous.
What I posted on my Facebook was 'I hope he told the manager she can go fuck herself'.

To-may-to, to-mah-to ...

How?

.
How indeed:
The thing about dogs eating homework is, it could actually happen. This can’t.

This is “the dog ate my hard drive, broke into another building, ate the backup of the hard drive, then broke into six other top officials’ offices and ate their hard drives also.”
I keep saying it, but things will not get better until the citizens get fed up enough to start spilling blood.

A half an inch?

.
Methinks someone needs a beat down:
On the last day of classes, June 5, Burkhart wore a sundress that she had worn to school before. But two hours before dismissal, she says teachers pulled her aside and measured her dress in the middle of the hallway while other students watched.

The teachers told Burkhart her dress violated the school’s dress code because the hemline was a half-inch too short. They told her she had to go home and change.
I've got an idea ... if you can't determine that something violates school policy sooner than 2 hours before the end of school for the year, you probably shouldn't be in charge.

You might be aware ...

.
... and then you might not:
Ask any cognitive psychologist or neuroscientist the same question, and they will tell you that consistent awareness is nearly impossible for the human animal. Some of them will even use highly amusing videos to explain basic concepts about how awareness works—and how it fails.
Here's the first video Ms Jackson refers to (and yes, I failed!):

Consider, then, what Joseph Wilcox did or didn't see. Amanda Miller was reportedly not 'with' Jarad, and ambushed him. He likely never saw it coming.

But just like the police officers who were assasinated, it can happen to the best of us.

Ace brings up ...

.
... some good points about what's wrong with our political system:
The only thing that can change is the incentive structure offered by the voters. As Milton Friedman observed, you will not get a good government by electing "Good People" to office. You either will not be able to accomplish this, or these Good People will soon become Bad People because that is the nature of the system.

The way you get good government is set the rewards -- and punishments -- such that even Bad People will make Good Decisions, out of pure self-interest.
Isn't this interesting, in light of the suggestion that T Jefferson made about liberty and the blood of tyrants and patriots?

Now, I'm not saying that we should just start the wholesale shooting of our representatives who screw up, but there is surely something a bit ... milder ... that we can do.

Part of the problem is the federalization of everything; the further away from the local, the less likely that an outraged citizenry will act. After all, it's much easier to influence your neighbor who's a legislator than it is someone who lives across the state.

A blogger of my acquaintance said (regarding the student who was not allowed to re-apply sunscreen in TX): Seriously, fathers have a duty to beat the living shit out of people like this. One good ass kicking can permanently reform the idiot, and serves as an object lesson to others. "Wait, is this decision callous enough that some angry father is going to beat me to a pulp? Then maybe I should double check my answer and see if there's a better solution."
Does anyone not think this would work on our elected officials?

Mr Harsanyi poses and excellent question ...

.
... too bad specifics are NOT what gun controllers want you to know:
Since he’s brought it up twice now, it’s fair to ask: What part of the Australian plan does Obama believe we should implement here in the United States? Surely he doesn’t believe the legislative effort now sitting in Washington is enough. What is enough?
Because if he were to actually be specific in something he thinks would help, the jig would be up.

Vox grins from afar ...

... at the bed the police have made for themselves:
US police love to dress up and play soldier, but apparently they have forgotten that an important aspect of being a soldier concerns the other side shooting back:
It is sad what it will take to cure the disease ...

Erik and Sabra Onstott are bloggers, and have needs. I don't know them personally but Breda and Alan do, and if they vouch for the Onstotts then I know that it's legit.

Go to the donation page and read about their troubles and donate as you are led to. s a prayer at the least.

This had got to be ...

.
... one of the worst reasons to elect a senator:
“I guess Mississippi doesn't want Federal money anymore,” revolving-door K Streeter John Feehery posted on Twitter last week.
This in response to MI voters expressing a preference that doesn't suit lobbyists. The GOP can't die as a party soon enough.

It's unconfirmed ...

.
... but some are reporting a CC citizen stopped a mass shooting:
An armed concealed carry civilian stepped in and shot of the gunmen.  The two shooters, a man and a woman, then went behind the store and killed themselves.  Police believe it was a suicide pact.
Some have reported that the CC'er is the individual shot and killed in front of the Walmart, other news is reporting that the female suspect shot the male and then killed herself.

It's sad that the gun issue has both sides so polarized that we're all trying to get some mileage out of tragedy.

Prayers for the families.

I posed this question to my wife ...

.
... and I'll pose it to you: Should 18 year-olds have to certify their franchise by passing the same citizenship test that legal immigrants do?

And I realize that there would have to be a constitutional amendment to make this happen. But given how ignorant younger people are (just watch any random Jaywalkng segment) you have to wonder if we might not want them to be able to vote until they can show some knowledge about what the fuck's going on.

pm

I have a question.

.
I've been watching all of the hand-wringing and panty-wetting being done on our side about the Chipotle and other incidents, and I keep hearing that open carry is subjected to gun grabs. One particular individual even made the statement that there are "numerous instances within the last few years.".

Now I asked for cites, since there have been 'numerous' instances and so should be relatively easy to document. And trying to give the benefit of the doubt, I ask you, gentle reader, how many is 'numerous' and over how many years would you allow these instances to have happened.

Because said individual gave me three (and arguably only two).

Hero ...

.
... or deserter?
The Army will investigate charges that rescued Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl deserted his post in Afghanistan, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey said Tuesday.

“When he is able to provide them, we’ll learn the facts. Like any American, he is innocent until proven guilty,” Dempsey said in a post to his Facebook page. “Our Army’s leaders will not look away from misconduct if it occurred.” …
Dempsey later said that his conduct is separate from the efforts to return him and I think this is an important distinction.

It's obvious that the actual terms of the exchange leave something to be desired but I can't fault anyone trying to get US military personnel out of harm's way, no matter how much of a shitbird they may be.

Good thing there wasn't a gun involved ...

.
... someone might have gotten hurt:
An act of retribution may have provoked a woman to brutally attack a third grader inside an Oakland elementary school bathroom, police say.

Police say Diame walked onto the campus during recess armed with a hammer and pulled a 9-year-old girl aside.
I've always wondered where in Lowes you find 'burglary tools'; now I know.

It seems as if some on our side ...

.
... just cant keep quiet.

This is from Salty Dad on Facebook. He's former LE, shoots pretty good and apparently has jumped on the bandwagon against open carry advocates.

I have a question: Does MDA, CSGV, Brady and Bloomberg not get enough exposure to fuck us in the ass without our side publically and loudly throwing gasoline on the fire? I mean, there are no shortage of examples of MDA flat out lying about ... everything ... and the best we can do is forward the news articles around in our echo chamber and bitch and moan on our podcasts and tell Facebook just how pissed we are that MDA lies, just so our non-gunny friends can roll their eyes one more time.

Does no one remember Bob Filner, the disgraced mayor in CA? Woman after woman came out and detailed his disgusting sexual habits, but you never heard a Democrat say an unflattering thing about him, even as he was resigning. Anything negative that was said to him by the Left was said in private.

Do we know that Filner was a putz? Yes ... but the media kept up the drumbeat from his supporters that he was really  good man, a misunderstood man.

But just let one of our own do something that some don't think is particularly helpful and you can't stop the voices talking about how stupid it was, and how bad it makes us look. Even when the event was planned ... and had the permission of the restaurant ... and all the photos that are soooo offensive were posed (the one fellow being a new member of the organization) ... and after no one (including police officers that were in the restaurant) paid no attention to the demonstrators, or called 911.

Sometimes it makes me sick to be on this side, as quickly as some of us turn on the others.

Does anyone remember how many big-name bloggers denounced George Zimmerman as soon as his story went national? I can think of two right off the top of my head and it wasn't 3 weeks before they were eating crow once the facts started coming out.

Way too many of us are far too willing to conform to other's ideas of how we should comport ourselves, especially when we personally don't like the behavior. Kinda like the FUDDs who complain about anything that isn't a Remington 700 or Benelli shotgun or Colt Python. Can't we do better?
